Some small amusements for a Monday

Medieval Shark Week is not a bad way to start a Monday morning.


If I'd known 15 years ago that the International Shark Attack File included reports going back to the Middle Ages, Scottish chronicles would have gone out the window.

The New Yorker has a (teasingly) short piece on Imperial Russia's answer to Mrs. Beeton and a young American's encounter with her book. Here may be a dissertation topic for the Victorianist who wants to branch out from the Anglo-American Domestic Manual Complex.

Iron Age industry returns to Cornwall (Several of the British news outlets have covered this story recently. Those interested in Iron Age Cornwall may wish to read Henrietta Quinnell's article, 'Cornwall during the Iron Age and Roman Period'(pdf) from Cornish Archaeology).
